	The property is based in a beautiful rural setting in Normandy, France, set on 200 acres of land including pastures, woodlands, informal gardens and an orchard. Much of the land is tenanted out but a portion is actively managed as a working smallholding with a small number of livestock, horses, an organic vegetable garden and greenhouse with the longer-term objective of making the property “self-sustaining”. The main house itself is a 300-year old chateau and there are a number of outbuildings, including staff accommodation of separate 3 bed, 3 bath, 2 reception room, fully renovated house. The family is based in London and travel regularly to the property and is seeking a couple to fill the roles of live-in Gardener/Handyman/Caretaker and Housekeeper. They have a young son and a dog. The family is actively involved with the management of the property and is in the process of undertaking a number of significant projects to the buildings and grounds, including a restoration various buildings, installation of new gardens and landscaping. Outline of Key Responsibilities Gardening • General maintenance of gardens in the formal part of the grounds (totalling approx 10 acres) including cutting the grass, strimming of borders and maintenance of hedges • Planting out of summer and winter flower beds and weeding, watering and care of same • Production of vegetables in the organic vegetable garden, including propagation of seedlings and preparation of vegetables for the family’s consumption • Tending of fruit bearing trees and bushes in the orchard • Maintenance of woodlands including selected clearing of fallen trees and re-plantings • Further seasonal duties such as clearing leaves and fallen branches, annual tree maintenance and pruning and other similar responsibilities Maintenance • Maintenance of buildings including basic repairs, painting and simple carpentry • Perform basic maintenance and repair of garden machinery, equipment and tractors • Ability to do project work, or willingness to learn; recent projects have included hard and soft landscaping, small masonry work and creation of the organic vegetable garden • Install and maintain fences and gates • Keep clean and tidy all outside areas • Keep clean, tidy and well-organised interior of outbuildings comprising orangerie, garage, pigeoniere, barns and workshop • Disposal of rubbish • Maintain supply of firewood • Arrange and supervise third party maintenance of plumbing systems, roof (slates, guttering), automated entrance gates, alarm systems, tractor, garden machinery and the like • Keep owners apprised of any minor or major damage and wear and tear to buildings Farming / livestock • Daily feeding and care of small flocks of chickens and ducks, including on weekends • Daily feeding and care of one horse, including weekends • Occasional errands into nearby town for supplies and picking up of guests The successful candidate will possess the following skills: • Good knowledge of horticulture, gardening and landscaping • Basic knowledge of farming and agriculture, organics a plus • Experience with equipment and machinery such as tractors, chainsaws and strimmers • Clean drivers licence • Computer and email experience • Enthusiasm for country pursuits • Excellent levels of health and fitness • Fluent English; spoken French is required (at least one), to at least a conversational level HOUSEKEEPER Outline of Key Responsibilities • Take full responsibility for the cleaning and preparation of all internal areas of the property • Ensure that the house is clean and presentable at all times • Regular deep cleans of the property, which are to be scheduled so as to cause minimum inconvenience to the owners • Ensure the house and bedrooms are ready for guests • Ironing and laundry; arrange for dry cleaning when required • On occasion, cook or assist with family meals • Maintain supplies of household products and groceries, placing orders and doing the shopping as necessary • Provide occasional child / pet care and supervision • Assistance with administrative tasks • Assistance with some basic gardening, care of chickens and ducks if of interest The successful candidate will possess the following skills: • Impeccable cleaning and ironing skills • Anticipate the needs of the household • Ability to cook family meals on occasion • Skilled in taking care of antiques, fine furnishings, oil paintings • Fluent English; spoken French is required, to at least a conversational level • Fondness for children and dogs The Terms of Employment: • Hours: o Gardener / Handyman / Caretaker: 40 hours per week o Housekeeper: 15-20 hours per week o Includes weekend work for care of animals (approx 1 hr / day) • Occasional additional overtime when required (with sufficient notice) • Accommodation: o Live-in o Fully renovated 3 bedroom / 2 ½ bath / 2 reception secluded house on the property (firnished or unfurnished) o Heating, water, basic phone paid • Salary: flexible, depending on experience • Holiday allowance: 5 weeks paid vacation per year, at times to be agreed with owner Pets and children welcome
