The Role of a Housekeeper / Nanny

• All aspects of Housekeeping, cleaning and dealing with tradesmen.

• Laundry for the family including the bed linen.

• Simple family cooking to the employer's requirements, eg childrens' teas and basic family meals such as Spaghetti Bolognaise.

• Childcare, eg entertaining the children by means of activities and outings. The care of household animals and watering the plants.

Points to consider

• Sole/shared charge - If the Housekeeper/Nanny has sole charge of the children, childcare becomes the main focus of the job and the Housekeeper/Nanny's household chores should be significantly reduced to ensure proper and safe childcare is maintained at all times.

• Babysitting - Some Housekeeper/Nannies will baby-sit out of normal working hours which is normally booked in advance by the employer.

Salary Guide

• Daily Housekeeper/Nanny £400 + per week net.


• Live-in Housekeeper/Nanny £350 + per week net.


• £10 per hour net for part-time Housekeepers.
